Problem and Remedy
Stripping or cracking of teeth
Use proper pitch and speed.
Eliminate vibration by holding the work-piece firmly.
Check for running backwards.

Band breakage or break at the weld
Place guides as close as possible.
Side guides too tight.
Adjust band tension.
Gauge of band too heavy for diameter of wheels.
Reduce feed.

Premature dulling of teeth
Use slower speed.
Keep teeth engaged.
Adjust feed pressure.
Consult cutting chart for right blade selection.

Blade not cutting straight
Use lighter feed.
Set guides as close as possible.
Adjust guides for even wear.
Increase band tension.
Use coarser pitch.

Burr on back or grooves in side of blade
Adjust the two back edge rollers so that both share the pressure equally.
Adjust side guides.
Check coolant.
Check alignment.

Saw blade vibrating in cut
Consult cutting chart for right blade selection.
Hold work firmly.
Increase band tension.
Adjust feed pressure.
Increase speed.

Gullets loading
Adjust speed to properties of material.
Use coarser pitch.

Rough surface-finish
Use finer pitch blade.
Use higher speed.
Reduce feed pressure.

Cutting rate too slow
Use coarser pitch.
Increase feed pressure.
Use higher speed.

Premature loss of set
Saw blades too wide for radius being cut.
Use slower speed.
Adjust guides.

Twisted blade
Reduce feed pressure.
Side guides adjusted too tight.
Use proper blade for radius being cut.
Band binding in cut.

Band stalls in work
Reduce feed pressure.
Check blade tension.
Reduce speed.

Band squeals while cutting
Increase feed pressure.
Reduce speed.
Check pitch.

Chips welded to teeth
Check chips brush.
Reduce feed pressure.
Check cutting fluid.
Excessive speed.

Band humps while running
Check the weld area.
Check backup bearings.
Check machine.

Saw blade not penetrating
Check material hardness.
Reduce speed.
Coarser pitch.
